After just over a month of exploring, I’m very bullish on Nostr. For context, I’m not from a Bitcoin background, never held any Bitcoin in my life before these few Sats I’ve now been zapped. Also I’d never heard of a “Sat” before; I initially thought “Zap” was the currency of Zaps and was somewhat confused when coming across the words “Zaps” and “Sats” in similar contexts and not knowing that one refers to the action and the other refers to the currency.
Also my first thought when signing up to test Nostr was “Why do all these people have laser-eyed avatars, is that like a thing here?” (Bitcoin people, you may have little idea how odd that feels, landing in a social network populated by laser-eyed people and not knowing why.) Plus I started in Snort, which uses some future-dystopian placeholders. So all-in-all a very 1980s sci-fi feeling.
Anyway I’m bullish because I see Nostr as a very viable architecture for a few very specific use cases which I think are going to be big in the next few years, combining some (also very specific) aspects of simplicity, ownership, speed, value-transfer and other things—plus Nostr has the traction to not be a theoretical option for these use cases.
But that's a topic for another day, for now just expressing some bullishness and also sending a quick shout out to other non-Bitcoin people here who like me took some time to figure out that Zaps isn't in fact the currency of Zaps.
